Julia Montero is an experienced media and technology lawyer. Julia qualified at Michael Simkins LLP and has spent over 20 years working in and around the digital music industry as a trusted advisor, including EMI UK, PRS for Music, Vodafone Group PLC and as Director of Digital & Commercial Legal Affairs at Warner Music International.

Julia founded Creative Counsel Law in London in 2016 to provide tailored individual project and ‘virtual GC’ services. Julia’s clients include major and indie record labels, tech start-ups and scale-ups (including AI), music publishers, songwriters and composers, high-profile individuals, talent agencies and collective management organisations. Julia has co-produced a small Soho theatre production and was on the editorial board of the Oxford Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice for many years. Julia is a skilled Board and strategic business advisor — Julia was one of the first two Independent Directors at the Ivors Academy (formerly BASCA) which hosts the annual Ivor Novello Awards for songwriters and composers and was appointed Deputy Chair (non-creator) and as Trustee at the Ivors Trust. Julia also works with London Law Collective.
